Every May, the ghost of a guilt ridden R.A.F Officer is supposed to stop to return to haunt the site of the former R.A.F Base at Coleby Grange, just south of Lincoln. The legend says that in the life the officer tormented himself over the number of young men he had sent on air raids, who has consequently been killed - one of whom has been his best friend. This mournful figure has been observed looking sadly from the top floor of the old control tower, his gaze taking in the over grown runway. Mysterious footsteps have also been heard in the top corridor. Sometime in the mid 1990's two friends visited Coleby Grange and found the control tower " Colder Than The Grave". As they wandered around they felt as if they were being watched, and as they went upstairs the hairs on the back of their necks stood up - for ir sounded as if footsteps were following them up the metal stairs. Looking back, they saw no-one to account for the noises. One of the boys left a coin on the stairs as they ascended; as they returned downstairs it was gone! However they did fine the coin again - unaccountably left for them in the doorway, to be found as they exited the place. However, Coleby has other alleged phantoms. The drone of long - gone bombers has been heared, and some kind of malignant spirit is held to throw stones at people outside looking up at the control tower, this is surely not the work of the tormented R.A.F Officer! Strangest of all, perhaps, are the curious headaches reported to be felt near the stairs. During a Red Alert a man is held to have falled down the stairs and cracked his head, leading to his death. People have reported the unaccountable head pains near the area and have been assailed by ghostly voices, thumps, bangs, groans and other unusual noises.

The Investigation Report
Date: 16 August 2008 The Team: James, Kris, Stew, Anna, Caitlyn, Aaron, Katie
On arriving, the spooky presence of the dilapidated watch tower was quite intimidating, the reputation of the building and it's suppsoed paranormal activity certainly added to the tension, and the team approaced the building very cautiously. It was the team's first investigation and everyone was very nervous but exited to go inside. As we Approached the control tower two members of the team Stew and Kris heard what could only be discribed as running water, on exploring the control tower no water puddles were found. After exploring the control tower we all decided to sit in a circle in the middle of the largest room on the second floor. Other than a few orbs nothing was really worth reporting. But in the room to the left just before the entrance to the large room on the second floor. Somehow everyone agreed that that room had something about it, the atmosphere felt different, more cold, eerie and the sence of panic surrounded the group a couple of people thought they saw a figure standing in the corner of the room, but nothing was picked up on the video cameras or the digital cameras. Later on that evening in the room to the left between the entrance and the stair-well, while trying to contact the airmen, a huge bang was heard on the upper floor, the atmosphere changed completly after that and freaked some of the team out so that was the time we decided to leave. After the investigation we went through the pictures taken and just beneath an orb a faint figure can be seen and Kris also developed a really bad headache whilst in the control tower. And after further research we discovered that this was a common thing.
Further Investigation: Yes, hopefully we shall visit this place around May 2009

Had lots of experiences at Coleby - it is one spooky location. Had an array of objects thrown at us, including stones, a lightbulb and an old fashioned penny from 1945! Still have it now. We have also heard footsteps, the sounds of old planes, voices and knocking, all coaught on tape.

My partner and I visited Coleby Grange last year with some very very strange and unexplainable experiences. Certainly didn't feel at ease while walking around there, especially after seeing a large menacing looking, home made metal cross placed perfectly central in one of the down stairs rooms. When walking up the stairs my partner commented 'Is it ok to be doing this, something doesn't feel right'. We walked around upstairs, took a few photo's and then left. On our way back to the car we spotted a solitary poppy growing on the edge of the field, it was a perfectly still, warm day so decided to take a photograph of it as it seemed very poignant. Got the camera out, focused, and as i went to take the photo, the wind blew up from nowhere, to such a degree that the poppy was being blown over. Didn't think too much of it until i turned the camera off, and the wind stopped as suddenly as it started!!!! We decided to head for the car at that point! As we got there i remarked that my shoulder hurt, felt like a deep burning pain which i couldn't account for. Hadn't leant against anything, hadn't brushed against anything, hadn't knocked against anything. I rolled my T shirt up and to my partners amazement there was an inflamed scratch type wound that she took a photo of as proof. An hour later she asked how my shoulder was? No pain, but more remarkably, NO mark!!!! Explain that to me someone please. And last but not least, all the photo's we had taken externally had come out well. The ones taken inside were not even on the camera, Absolutely nothing.
Far too spooky for me I'm afraid

A couple of weeks ago my daughter went for a walk around the perimeter of the tower with her 2 carers. My daughter has autism and learning disabilities. She suddenly pointed up to the top of the tower and said "What's your name?" The carers could not see anybody but when asked my daughter said it was a man. When asked what he wore, she said he had a hat and scarf on. My daughter does not have the ability to just make things up out of nowhere, so who did she see?
